Kumasi Fort, now the Ghana Armed Forces Museum, actually is the original Ashantene palace (King of the Ashanti kingdom). Basically what is left as foundation and some walls. The fort as it is today was largely build after 1900, and the palace was destroyed. You will find the new palace not to far away. The kingdom still exists, and Ashanti region is the actual kingdom, having some special status in Ghana.
